1942 Headhunting in The Solomon Islands Around The Coral Sea by Caroline Mytinger
This fascinating vintage 1942 hardcover edition of Headhunting in The Solomon Islands: Around The Coral Sea by was written by Caroline Mylinger. It tells the story famous portrait artist, Mylinger and her childhood friend Margaret Warner, who set out by freighter from San Francisco with little more than $400 in their pocket and a tin of paints to their name. Their objective was to paint portraits of the tribal people of Papua New Guinea and the Solomon Islands before the encroachment of modern, European-style culture changed their lives forever. This gripping book tells of the two women's experiences whilst travelling through Melanesia between 1926 and 1930. This copy is in used vintage condition with the dust jacket missing and some wear to the edges of the cloth cover. There are a couple of spots of discoloration to the front end pages, but there are no marked or torn inner pages and excellent overall color quality.
