1952 The Heir of Douglas by Lillian De La Torre - First Edition
This beautiful vintage 1952 hardcover first edition of The Heir of Douglas is "a new solution to the old mystery of the Douglas cause - a notorious 18th century scandal of disputed birthright" by Lillian De La Torre. In 1748, Scottish noblewoman Lady Jane Douglas gave birth to twin boys in Paris. Although she and one of the boys died in poverty five years later, her surviving son was heir to one of the greatest fortunes in England, and would become one of the most important men in the empire—if his inheritance were secure. But was Archibald Douglas really Lady Jane’s son?
This copy is in used vintage condition with some small tears to the edges of the dust jacket and the original owner's stamp on the front end page, but there are no torn or marked pages and excellent overall color quality.
