1945 Anna and The King of Siam by Margaret Landon
This vintage hardcover edition of Anna and The King of Siam was written by Margaret Landon, Illustrated by Margaret Ayers and published in 1945 by Garden City Publishing Company. It tells the story of Anna Leonowens, a British widow hired in the 1860s to tutor the children and wives of King Mongkut of Siam. The story, a mix of historical fiction based on Leonowens' memoirs, depicts the cultural clashes between Victorian England and Siam, the development of a mutual respect between Anna and the King, and her attempts to introduce modern, egalitarian views while navigating Siamese tradition. The book inspired the 1946 film Anna and the King of Siam, the 1999 film Anna and the King, and the classic musical The King and I. This copy is in very much used vintage condition with the dust jacket missing and some discoloration to the cloth cover along with some warping to the covers caused by water damage. There is a water stain to the bottom center of the book that has caused some discoloration, bleeding and waviness to the paper, but there are no torn or marked pages and good overall color quality.
